As some of you know we're planning a reunion in Western Canada & everyone is welcome. And yes, David Matthews is still alive & kicking in Calgary (known David since I was 3 years of age). Are the rinks still there? Just from typing this a thousand memories flashed through my head: Crossing the river on the ice, Sliding down the hill at the pool or Lion's hill on Prince George St (?) Being the first on the ice at the rinks in the morning after the town flooded them the night before, Crossing the train bridge, Canada Day at the Legion, Regatta at the boating club , Cross-country skiing in the boys camp, Fishing in the Mountain Lake, 7am swimming lessons (Brrrrrrr), Football games on Mountainview School’s Field, Legion Slow pitch at Notre Dame School... I could probably type out memories for hours, its amazing 18 years I lived in Otterburn and the hundreds of great memories it has created.

Hi Phillipa ... AND oh Cheryl I remember the red suspenders - they had quite a bend in them if I remember correctly..:o))) Anybody have any pictures from the dances at Mountainview that might have my band in them? I remember MacKenzie filmed us playing one night - hmmmm wonder what ever happened to that film... I gave an old picture of the championship hockey team that I hope gets posted sometime - it was not a great shot as it was from the newspaper but maybe it can be enhanced. Anyone heard from Spaz (Charlie Lear?) or KAK (brian Mellor) - don't you just love the nick names we all had back then? Favourite Mountainview Memory: "acting ??" in mr. shaw's plays so that I could get out of doing school work (and maybe get a passing grade); being taught by mr. walker, then playing football against him as bugsy walker; mr. andrew (a great man) and much more. After digging thru a box of pictures (with my brother ken), many thoughts and memories come to mind - I've sent some pics along and hopefully they will bring smiles to your faces.
Other Very Fond Memories: 15 years in great community. Boating club activities (paddling, girls and bus rides). Jumping the fence of the community's new pool and being (sort of) arrested by the voluntary fire and police department in which my two uncles were members (dad still cracks up on that one). The apple orchard, cheap cigars and cider at .25 a bottle - boy did that hurt but we always went back for more. The Central Hotel c/w highly creative ID and train bridge travels. Hockey, football and Paddling. We had great times, got an education and our small community turned out some pretty successful people.
Comments: Fantastic site and thank you ladies. Our paths never crossed (your much younger than I) but you have done a great job of putting many people and friends together. ***************************************************************************************************************

Our volunteer police force/fire department. How fortunate we all were to have the opportunity to grow up in such a wonderful little town. Travelling back and forth to work on the train - left the Otterburn Trail Station at 7:25 and brought us back into otterburn by 6:25. Thank you everyone - this is just so great!!!!

Favourite Mountainview Memory: My favourite times were spent with a great bunch of people (Sherrill Alderson, Timmy Jackson, Peter Campbell, Johnny Gurr, Carolyn Small, Janet Veevers, John Welch, Dennis Duke, Raymond O'Hanlon, Bruce Hug, Patrick Cordier, Sue Eason, Jill McCubbin, Kay Atkinson, Liz Cadman, to name ONLY a few...) going to school dances where The Colonials played good rock and roll. I was on the dance committee for the winter carnival ball, and I think we had as much fun at our planning meetings as we had at the dance itself. Toboggans in the gully, picnics on the mountain, riding around in Graham Ewart's dad's convertible, mob scenes at the drive-in, getting into the folk music thing, and the hay ride the morning after our grad. Classic teenagehood!

Hi All, I just wanted to add my 2 cents worth to the New Years Greetings...What a great year it has been for Mountainview/Otterburn etc. Getting this site up and running was a big challenge, but it seems to have hit the mark and paid off bigtime! With so much going on in the world at the present time, For me at least, it was wonderful to have this little haven all to ourselves...May we continue to stay in touch, help each other and party on!!!
I want to thank Heather Bryan and Mike Little, who did so much to get this thing off the ground...which got me to the place where I can fly solo and not make too much of a fool of myself. Linda Anderson has also been a great source of support, threatening you all on a regular basis to check out the Web Page or else! ( did anyone ever find out what the or else was..T'was probably milk and cookies at her house while she walked you thru the basics of the internet!)
Anyway, thanks and good luck to all...Keep senting pictures...
Cheers and New Years.....Donna <<<<< look what I can do,
my site, eh?

Favourite Mountainview Memory: Mr. McTavish lobbing a basketball 'swish' from beyond the middle of the gym ! Fiery Ms. Lomas... Drama: taking "The Importance of Being Ernest" to Westmount. More Drama! Folk singing.Listening to Bob Dylan backstage. Mr. Bregman picking Toivo van de Water out as an example of "too long hair" Oh Oh wrong family to pick out of a crowd.... knee sox in Feb. walking the path. Learning to love English with Jackson Campbell and Diane Braitstein and loathe latin and almost fail Chemistry. (French teachers who were anything but....)
Comments: Donna, thankx for setting this site up. Looks like lots of people are enjoying it. Have not seen AnyOne from Mountainview in probably 20 years, wouldn't recognize i'm sure. It would be neat to have a "what ever happened to" section: the welbourne family ? Marina Szabo ? (noticed that Michou is sporting that name, might have to contact her...) Kendra willis? did Carole Ann Fogelman actully become a teacher?? I'm definetely from the last edition of graduates! although to my understanding, it was a good year)
I have spent the Last 19 years majoring in advanced Motherhood, 3 really neat kids. Homeschooled. Raised chickens.veggies and lived in the country with musican/carpenter. Now launching into self-employment: counselling Body-mind integration. Still love singing/music, travel & is as zany and off the beaten track as ever.
All the Best in the New Year and who knows, maybe i'll find a shoehorn big enough to get me out to the reunion. (would definitely be worth it if Sheila was there ! and if TS, LMR and RGS decided to show up...) And speaking of Grade School... What ever happened to Michel and Anne Drury??? They probably had the biggest impact on my school years of all!

The dangerous thrill of crossing the train bridge. Skating parties. Valerie Dunn's beautiful hair! Sitting on top of the pommel horse or gymnastics vaulting stand to run the projector for the movies in the gym. Idolizing kids older than me ( Brian Luckock's hockey magic, Sonny Blackshaw's drums. Cheryl Simms curvy suspenders! ) and yet mostly unaware of anyone more than a year younger than me. Does anyone remeber bordenball? Mr. Wall the gym teacher. House league teams ( Spartans, Trojans,,,,). That's all for now. I'll look for the dates of the reunion. Roddy

Favourite Mountainview Memory: Actually, it was after I left Otterburn for Ottawa, and watched the
Montreal Alouettes play Saskatchewan on TV. And towards the end of the game, on a third-and-one
from the 40 yard line or so, Quarterback Sonny Wade caught the Riders expecting the run and threw
a surprise pass to Otterburn's own Skip Eaman who waltzed in for the touchdown. 1969 or so.
I think I got that right! Comments: What a super idea. Thanks Keith Laverty. So much I remember about Otterburn.
My Grandparents. Ice blocks from the river for the refigerator. Auclairs and apples. the boat ferry
across to the movie theatre (that burned down). That hairy railway bridge crossing. The butcher in
Otterburn Park, and the five oclock am bugle playing from that boys' camp across from Helen Avenue.
Anybody know whatever happened to my firstever girlfriend Sherry Irving?

Friday, January 11, 2002 00:56 Name and E-mail address: (optional) Phillipa Syme philippa@axionet.com Years attended: 1964 - 1968 Current location: Vancouver Comments: Hi Again, Yes, I do remember Cheryl Sim's red corduroy suspenders on her
white oxford cotton shirt, with the gray skirt and very sweet smile
.. re-Sonny's and my brother Roddy's posts .. ( I thought Roddy would be too young to notice!)
How Mrs. Lessard adored Cheryl in geometry class.
For looks that could kill, in my life, Flo Lessard takes the cake ! I ran into her at an
auction house in Mtl in 84? and we chatted and combed our hair washroom just like old times.
Although she'd had a stroke, and dragged her leg slightly, she was still sharp as a tack.
Is she still around?
She was somewhat of a pioneer, having got a math degree at Queen's when it was not
the norm for women to do that. Sonny, I believe that somewhere I have an 8x11" b&w photo of the Colonials? taken at
the Otterburn Legion w/ Sonny on drums and Ronnie (Herman's Hermits) Talbot on
vocals. Maybe I could find it ... what's it worth?! Could Alistair Brickel - local
documentor of Mountainview and related scenes - have taken that photo!?! Just returned from my son's wedding in Korea - it was quite the cultural experience.
I first married John Foster (who I just saw in Korea) and we
had two kids back in the 70s , and then Rosse Lapper with whom I have another child
of 8. We are not together, but co-parent here in Vancouver.
Both Rosse and John lived in and hung out in the shade of mount St. Hilaire.
Probably various people remember those families. The search for roots - I keep coming back to this website - is must be about self
affirmation as we all continue to ride the waves of life . To Mike Scuffel ... I know Debbie Williams maintained contact with Stewy Spencer for
a number of years - he was in Calgary for awhile,
so some of the Calgarians may know his whereabouts. Yes - I survived the train bridge - the lowdown was - you put your ear to the track to
hear if there were train vibes/or not. A miscalculation would have brought a similar
scene to that captured in a movie - Image : kids running for their lives from an
oncoming train - was the movie name 'stand by me' ? River Phoenix was in it. Yes - Auclair's snack bar and the power of music .... Mr Neiforth running over to yank
me out of there to take the bus home to St. Hilaire after school
. Curses and humiliation! long live music! Happy New Year and ttfn Philippa (never flipper - though Stu Vickers tried) **********************************************************************************************************************
