Name and E-mail address: (optional)Brenda Smith (now Zantingh)

  bzantingh@telus.net

Years attended: Mountainview Elementary from 1960 - 1965 Moved away to California
in October 65 then back to Beloeil in April 67. Attended Wm. Mcmaster. Left
Beloeil (and PQ) for good in May 68 when we moved to Calgary and points west.

Current location: Smithers, BC (between Prince George & Prince Rupert--
about 5 km short of nowhere)

Favourite Mountainview Memory: Playing in the manor house, the boating club,
the old ice house (after the ice but before the fire dept.) and in numerous
homes of summertime residents of the park who were away for the season---
while explaining this to a co-worker recently, I realized that I was a
childhood b & E artist! walking home from La Cabin with fish 'n chips
wrapped in newspaper...hayrides...skating...firecracker day
(queen victoria day--not haloween!) those yellow flowers that grew down by
the river (lilies?) stealing apples, jumping on the rolls of fencing behind
the old Union church (now a funeral home) on the way to school
(i think the farmer put them there to discourage us from using the short-cut?
) playing in the creek down near my great grandmother's house
(across from Notre Dame) .....so many memories. Amazing what one thinks
of at 3:00 a.m. after too much coffee....

Comments: Anyone out there from any of my elementary school classes?
There's another Otterburner here in Smithers. Gary Haydock. He was a
year behind me in school, I think, and lived in the heights.

Donna, you are a gem! I can't begin to tell you how much this means to me
(and everyone else, it would seem). perhaps in light of 9-11, we all
realize how fleeting life can be -- how important it is to cherish our
most precious memories....and not let them fade into dust and rubble.

Lynne Sparks Powell e-mail: lynnebspakrs@hotmail.com
Years attended: April 1965 - April 1967
I came in the middle of Gr 9, but having just completed 2 years in the US I was all mixed
up and had to do it all over again. I was 3/4 of the way through Gr. 10, when my parents
up and moved to Brossard! My brother Howard, was 2 years behind me. We both
graduated from Lemoyne D'Iberville High School in Longueuil.
Current location:
Lynne - 5005 Kensington in St. Hubert (J3Y 2W5) 676-7868
Howard - moved to Guelph, Ontario in 1978 and owns his own auto shop "Auto Sparks"
E-mail: autosparks@sympatico.ca

Favourite Mountainview Memory:
The four musketeers Lynne (me), Liz (Wick), Chris (Klove) and Gloria (Healy. We were
inseparable for 2 years! Unfortunately none of us has a name or picture posted here
so far! I also remember the apple blossoms in the spring. And the apples! I must have
eaten bushels. I actually lived in St. Hilaire, so I walked through the apple orchards to
and from school every day. I found this web-site through Elizabeth Hood (Cerins) with
whom I recently found after not seeing or hearing from since we moved in 1967.
What a small world! I would like to hear from my other 3 friends who I haven't seen
since 1967 either! Liz Wick did attend Lemoyne D'Iberville High for a short while but
I didn't see much of her at the time. She was gone after a few months.

Comments:
Anyone who remembers me please contact me! I wish I had pictures! I didn't graduate,
so I don't have any. I will pass this along to my brother too.

Name and E-mail address: Ian Thomson (tembo@sympatico.ca)

Years attended: Grades 1 through 11, graduating in 1964

Current location: Still in the neighbourhood, the olde homestead.

Favourite Mountainview Memory: That has to be Mr. Shaw, MacBeth and
Saint Joan ...and not having to worry about late assignments anytime before
the last curtain call.
Actually the cast party we had at home after MacBeth has to be pretty memorable.
We, my brothers and I, were always allowed to have a beer at home,
(much more comfortable than in the gully), so Mum thought nothing of offering
it to a bunch of 16 year olds at the party. Today you'd get sued!!
Comments: This is a great idea Donna, I'll see if I can dig up any old photos, scan
them and forward them to you.

Name and E-mail address: Norman Noel nnoel@telus.net.
Years attended: Must have bequn Elementary in 1960 and left Mountainview High
in the first migration to RVRHS in 1969
Current location: Prince George, BC
Favourite Mountainview Memory: I'm currently living in Prince George, BC
where I occasionaly sip a glass of wine with Barry Hammond another Otterburn emigre.
I have so many fond memories of Otterburn and St. Hilaire: dancing to Les Gants Blancs,
stealing my first kiss in the Leclair apple orchards, playing intramural lunchtime sports,
especially 'Bordenball', the enchanting fall colours and skating on the forest ponds between
'the Park' and 'the Heights'. I remember well afternoons spent at Rod Syme's with T.Stenzel,
L.Radcliff, O.Zyderhoff et al. as we approached the end of our grade eleven year and all new
that this was the end of our childhoods and that we would not be able to share these moments
for many more days.

I slipped away from Quebec in 1970 and moved to BC where I have lived since but I have gone
back to the old haunts a few times. I often wonder how those in the yearbooks and class
pictures are doing. Thanks, for hosting this page; when I'm avoiding a pile of marking
which calls from my backpack it will be a wonderful place to go to spend a few moments
daydreaming (I think most of my Mountainview teachers considered that my greatest strength)

Favourite Mountainview Memory:All of my memories of Mountainview and Otterburn

teach us something! Estelle Saunders, Mrs Glenright who both deserved a lot
better than what they got from us. So many memories...I marrried Ross Walter in

Glen Lucock plus the occasional female and drive at 120 miles per hour down
route 9 towards St.Hyacinthe.This (of course)was way before I had my driver's
permit. Everytime I did this, I'd get stopped by the police and dad would have to
come collect me at the police station even though he'd have get up a few hours
later to preach a sermon at Mountainview Baptist Church.

Mountainview Memories:  So many, most of them good ones.  Being in a 'Small' school where you knew just about everyone and you weren't just another 'body'  in a big building.  I recognize so many of the names in the guest book and can put a face to most of them, although 40 years younger!!  I have been in contact with several of my old school mates, it would be great to hear from more.

Comments:  WE finally moved from Quebec in 1985 (wished we could have picked Otterburn up and brought it with us!) to Hamilton, Ontario and then  to Niagara Falls, Ontario, my birthplace, in 1999.  I had left here in 1958.  We have three great kids, who all went to Mountainview too.  Jim who will be 37yrs soon, Stacey, 34 yrs. and our baby Kari 28 yrs.  (lord I can't believe that I have these adults for kids!!)  Also we have SIX wonderful Grand Kids, two Granddaughters and four Grandsons and another expected for the New Year!!!  Hoping for a Girl this time :-).

Comments:
This is a great site Donna. Phil Turgoose drew it to my attention. I am still in touch with Phil and marlene (bryan) as well as all of marlene's sisters (Karen, valerie and pam), keith scobie (vacouver), mark hanley (kingston..he bought my dad's 56 oldsmobile) and peter warren (orillia, ont). hear of the holden, calderhead and simpson offspring through their parents. i guess the walrus snow sculpture that leah auclair and i made (with slave carolyn) was a sign of what was to come. ended up working on marine mammals in the arctic and antarctic. been in kuujjuaq 11 years now... still single... working for the inuit as director of a small research centre that studies wildlife and "country" foods. spend most of my summers along the coast of eastern hudson bay.
lost contact with some old st. hilaire friends: barry knott (probably president of avery label by now...last heard of in usa). see julian falconerer on the news sometimes (toronto lawyer... wonder how karen and janet are). my old buddy david holden was lost to cancer 11 years ago. he was a prof in chemistry at waterloo.
anyone passing through kuujjuaq, come and say "hi"...only 2 hours north of montreal (by jet). sorry i will likely miss the reunion as it will be sun and sand time in eastern hudson bay. hi to all and thanks Donna!

Favourite Mountainview Memory: Reading everyone's e-mails sure does jog the old memory - the orchard parties and stealing apples, sliding in the gully, the manor house, walking the train bridge to go see our French boyfriends, the slave auction where Kathy Sproule , Phillippa Syme, and I bought Teddy LeDrew,  the winter carnival, getting kicked out of Mr.Tallboy's Latin classes (and others) and  standing in the hall, the broken furnace (thanks Simione), and on and on

Comments: It is so nice to hear what has become of so many people who I grew up with. Otterburn was a great place. Presently my husband,21 year old son and I are working in Calgary, trying to save money for travels to Asia, Australia, and N.Z. in the fall.  Would love to hear from old friends.

Comments: Hello to all! It was so sad to learn about the boating club. Those were excellent pictures! Oh, the memories: regattas, corn roasts, great dances. How I loved that wrap-around porch. I sure hope if they rebuild that they keep a similar style.
I heard from Ann (Vickers) recently. We had lost touch in the 70's.
This web-site is great for rekindling old friendships.
When I learned about the reunion, I had just sent off a deposit cheque for a vacation in P.E.I.  We will be stopping over at my parents' in Otterburn on our way but won't be able to make the re-union.
We live in Milverton, Ontario.  Its a village with 1600 people 28 km. north of Stratford. we moved here 13 years ago when our two kids were 5 & 10. I think I was trying to find an Otterburn for them! It is the kind of community where everyone knows everyone and where sports are really BIG. It just doesn't have the mountain, the river, or the orchards. As kids we never realized how lucky we were to live in such a pretty area.

Current location:  I am now living in London, Ont.  Have lived here for the past 15 years or so.  Some of you may also remember my older brother Randy Moffat who attended Mountainview for Grade 11 and possibly Grade 10 as well, memory foggy.  Randy moved to London before I did.  Randy died in 1987 at the age of 39.  This is a terrific website.  Thank you for all your efforts.
Favourite Mountainview Memory:  Milkshakes from the cabane, sodas at Barney's, spending my allowance in Auclairs, flying saucer rides down the gully - no wonder my back is sore now - swimming all summer in the pool and skating all winter to music there, stealing apples from the orchard - they don't taste the same in Ont. - Field day at Mountainview.  Ballet lessons at Church.  Otterburn was the best place to be a kid.

What bad garden pests we were.  Viewing forts made of apple crates at that same locality.  Does anyone know who built those? Hi Ann, wasn't it Brain Gorman you and I bought with Kathy Sproule at a slave sale?  Where are they now?  Cheers et al!

Update, Western Reunion, I apologize for the delay, my job was tracking you down, Susan's arranging reunion activities, Brian (well) he came up with the idea.  Anyway, we had a hoard of people say they were coming, a lesser number sent money.  Please forward ASAP, as Susan's dogs has gone without supper too many nights (hefty desposits).  It looks like we have a whole lot of vintage MHS'ers attending, should be a hoot.  Book accommodations early it is a busy time of year.  Take Care, see you there.  Anybody remember how to do the locomotion???  Please excuse all errors, I'm trying to run a softball league, got to run.

Hi - I went to Grade 7, 8 and 9 with people like: Martin Dey, Susan Rivington, Linda Ewart, Barbara Smith, Jimmy Sproule, Gordy Cairns, Lynne Atkinson - we had a ball - we used to have outdoor pyjama parties and meet the boys - then hide behind low stone walls on the "top road" and bomb the mayor's car with apples and run like the wind to the screams of "hey, watch out! old man charbonneau's got a bb-gun this time!!!! aghhhh" - anyways wonderful memories and i'd love to hear from any of you - been in toronto since 1982 - loving it and very happy.  nancy

Am living with my partner (23 years) and our eight year old son.  I am an administrator at Wellesley College.

Favourite Mountainview Memory: Many, many memories.  Riding my bike up
and down those Otterburn hills form Auclair's snackbar or Kaye Atkinson's house. Playing on six or seven sports teams each year... the post proctice chats by the Pepsi machine.  Walking the train bridge.  Winter carnivals (especially the one where I flipped a puck into Kaye's face a few hours before the Carnival Ball).  Our all night graduation parties, which ended with a hayride to my home.  Long chats on the way to school with the always wise Wendy McFall.... and lots more.
Comments:  I have been thinking a lot about Otterburn over the past year  (I guess that happens when one approaches 50), so I took a little tour back late last March.  I was amazed by how built up the mountain has become.  Now that I've reconnected somewhat with the place it is great to be able to reconnect with the people.
This web site is a great idea.  Wonderful to read stuff from everyone.

WESTERN REUNION UPDATE....
Hard to believe it's been 35 year (+). It was so wonderful seeing everyone and meeting earlier
and younger grads. Susan really did a bang up job. We started with a Wine & Cheese Reception
Friday evening at Summerhill Winery (wow, what a view, and the wine's not so bad either).
We got to take in the Regatta Festival Events Saturday during the day, then it was off to a
Dinner & Dance, we had approx. 45 attend, we chatted, looked at yearbooks (laughed lots at
ourselves pictures), drank, ate, danced and had a really good time. Sunday morning it was brunch
at the Grand Hotel (GRAND is correct). Then it came time to say our farwells, exchange info
 and shed a few tears.
Lots of pictures were taken, so we are awaiting their arrival.
Thanks to the following for making it a very special weekend: Lloyd & Alice Luckock,
Brian Luckock, Doug & Julie Cairns, Bob & Kelly Blackshaw and guests, Doug Matthews,
David Matthews, Bob Cadman, Bernie McCarthy & guest, Dick Boyer & guest, Donald Munroe,
Philippa Syme, Michou Jaroz, Lindene Jervis, Betty Ann Booth, Lynn Stewart, Karen Stewart,
Lois & Bill Archambault, Nigel & Gail Purser, David & Nancy Martin, The Greenough Clan (12),
Susan Morrison, daughter Michelle and grandaughter Aaliyah (5 mo).
Would you believe the two youngest grads (no names Phil & Mic) couldn't keep up with the
oldies. See you at the next reunion and it won't be 35 years away... Have a blast in the East.

I second Linda's comments!
What a great time. I really enjoyed seeing everyone and so did my family. Had a great time
playing golf with Lloyd and Alice. Susan you did a fabulous job (along with your helpers).
It is too bad the others did not show as it would have been nice to see them all again.
And I guess some do not understand the commitments you had to make to pull this off!
I trust we managed to settle the shortfall.
It was definitely worth the effort - I really had a great time. It was amazing to see how many
people are still the same - I loved it.
Bill & Lois - great to see you again - still infectious laughter & smiles.
Lloyd & Alice had lots-o-laughs with you guys...(I love seeing a man get his ass kicked by his
 wife in golf!)
Dave Mathews - you are a sick man - have not laughed that hard for some time!
Nigel & Gail - same as always - have not had a man hug me since my dad passed away - funny -
I enjoyed it! - great to see you again.
Dave & Nancy - well really nice to spend some time together again - missed it lots
Doug Mathews - well it is still humbling to stand beside the fastest guy in school -
thanks for travelling all the way from NB
Susan & Linda - great job and I enjoed seeing you both & the little Bambino who was perfect
the whole time
Wayne, terry, gail greenough - great to see you guys - gail say hi to Barton for me & send Email
address - great to see your dad again too!
Betty Ann - Really enjoyed seeing you and everybody again
MIchou - nice to finally put a face to the name...great meeitng you and your family
Brian - you and Lloyd are still the same old FIT guys we knew in school - you guys don't look a
day older - must be dyeing their hair - right?
Bernie - great to see you again - a thin version of Santa :o)
Don Munro - You have to say hi to Peter & David & get me email addresses - really nice to see you again.
Doug Cairns - Did you know only 3 of us from the championship hockey team were there
(you , Doug & me) -
Dick Boyer - I think I remember an incident in the pub from way back
(something to do with a spray..) great to see you again - you look the same
Lynn & Karen - Wish we'd had more time to talk - good to see you again -
Philippa - what can I say - still as pretty as when we went to the Winter Carnival -great memories..Your daughter looks just like you!
IF I have forgotten anyone it is because of age/memory......... you know!
Really really enjoyed the events, meeting everyone, the laughs, memories - thanks to all of you!
    Sincerely,
    Bob (Sonny)
(My wife Kelly is getting a kick out the "Sonny" thing)
PS: If anyone wants to play golf in Calgary - look me up.
Pictures to come - I have 15-20 of them...

auclair orchards without getting caught (ouch), new faces from other places; movie nights;
lunch time in the gym; irritating mr higgs until he made books fly (karen falconer always seemed
to raise her head from sleeping position at this time); and absolutely the last time i made
the basketball team (only at mountainview could you make the team at 5'3'').

Comments: great times reading all the postings. not only did i get to relive some memories
of my own mountainview times, but also recognized many of the people from times spent
with my sister debbie and brother sam. can't help but chuckle at the posting from timmy jackson
- my memories of phone calls in the middle of the night were my dad picking up the phone
and saying 'i'll be right there'. i'd ask is it your's or mr jackson's car this time dad?
sam and timmy either had the worst luck i've ever seen or........

great site and effort donna-good for you! how is susan? i did not see any posting from her?

Marina Szabo, Eva Lockard, Susan Campbell, Karin Van de Water.
Comments: Great site, Donna, thanks! Some of you will remember my mom, the teacher -
she and my dad are well and living in Kelowna BC for the last ?10 years or so.
I still keep in touch with Marina Szabo (Bancroft) who is in Baie d'Urfe and Eva Lockard
(Toronto). And it was great to hear from some of the classmates I tracked down through
 the McGill directory (hi, Leah!).

I've been in Whitehorse since 1979 - left Mountainview for Montreal and was at
West Hill High for four months before the family moved to Edmonton.
Finished high school there, came back to McGill (B Comm 1976), then moved to Toronto
for three years (Chartered Accountant 1979). I work with the Government of Yukon -
married Tom Booth in 1984 on a restored sternwheeler in a small town just outside
Whitehorse, and have two kids - daughter 16, son 13.
We've travelled quite a bit (India, Thailand, Mexico) and built a cabin outside of town
on a lake. I've been a (very slow) on & off runner for years - just did a (trail) half-marathon
last weekend and am looking forward to my leg of the annual Skagway-Whitehorse

The people that stand out; Keith (Skip) Eaman.Stuey Vickers and brother Murray,Stu Spenser.
Geary (Pecker) Prive, Dougy Jude, Gary Gilbert, Bob (Snort) McGeary,Leo Clement (Great Guy)
Bob Rob, Brian Marchant, Sonny Blackshaw (never new him as Bob), Ron/Bob/Linda/Kenny Jones,
Doug Cairns, Sheila Gurr (Thought I'd throw her in) Marion Cadman, Pat Sproule and Janet
(What a great athlete) What was Pat's best friends name. All I can think of is hoppy bouncing

Does anyone remember Caroline Cooper, she lived in Mr.Shaw's house before he moved in.
Speaking of the latter I could write a book about he & his wife's driving antics (old VW Beattle).
Paul Harrison, sorry to hear about the passing of his brother, Tony. Paul was the best dancer I
had ever seen and after seeing his parents dance one night I know why, in the genes.
Their are many more I've not mentioned but I'm running out of space & the memory is not what

Favourite Mountainview Memory: No memories of Mountainview school as I attended the old
two-room school. Donna has sent me photos of my parents, grandparents, brother's and
mine and that sure stirred the brain cells. Started to remember the loons calling in
the evening from the sandpit - not there anymore. Remember skiing in the gulley and
coming out along the tracks - one of the big 6200 steam locos decided to blow off
excess steam as it passed me - that sure warms you up in a hurry! Remembered that our
son Brian was only five when we moved to Ottawa in 1970 - he is now in San Francisco
 - all 6'2" of him. My sister has most of the old photos but I will have to dig around
and see what I have. Having become the Family Historian I have some of great
grandparents, but no one alive would remember them. Very heartwarming to see that
the old homesteads are cherished and well kept. Many happy memories of my youth in
Thistledome, such that our home in Maryland is called Thistledome II.

What did you do Saturday? Alan and I went to see the taping of the Vinyl Cafe's Christmas Show?
at Place Des Arts. For those of you unfamilliar with the show, It is a CBC radio program hosted by
Stewart Mclean, he tells amusing stories and there is always good music. The Christmas shows
are particulairly well known and popular. The taping we attended will be broadcast either this weekend
or the one after, on Saturdays at 10am on CBC 2 or Sundays at noon on CBC 1. Give it a listen and
see if you can pick out my laugh!
Cheers, Linda, and thanks for the good words. All the best in 2003, And

Comments:Keith Laverty got me in touch with this web page. I saw my picture
with the black and white football team picture.I moved to Beaconsfield in 1965
but I will scan a 1965 picture and one of me now to aid to your collection.
I want to commend you on this superb idea for a web site and you for your
countless hours. I recognize a lot of the people from the football picture and
never dreamed I would find anything about this forgotten stage of my life.
Thanx again I'll be in touch.

eve day 2002,(obviously an early gift) I would never have known that you were
in existance. I'm one of those rare birds who has yet to become the proud
possessor of a pc. lol! I have to rely on the good graces of friends or the internet
 cafe. But I've already been in touch with some of my  fellow alumni ;
Phillippa Syme, Brian Luckock, Debbie Williams, And I left a voicemail for
Susan Morrison in Kelowna. Brian,Phillippa and self are going to try to get
together the first weekend in February.

Name and E-mail address: Jo Ann (Pilkington) Shoemaker
Years attended: Grade 1 (with Mrs Pyke in the old school) through Grade 11 (Grad 1964)
Current location: We, my husband Jeff and daughter Elizabeth
(age 18 months - adopted from Kazakhstan in Jan. 2002) now live in Friendswood Texas.
This is halfway between Houston & Galveston. We moved here in 1977 after living and
teaching in Chataguay and West Island for years.
Favourite Mountainview Memory: Whenever I go home, and there is still family there
(Tommy & Betty, Peter & Johanne Hopley and their kids)
my first sight of the - MY - mountain always brings a lump to my throat.
Other things I remember are the smells; of the apple blossoms in the spring and
the way it looks like the whole area is covered in snow and the smell of the
"Sugaring-Off Parties" up on Jean-Claude Aulair's farm and eating "sugar on snow".
I also miss Curling at the Leagion and in St Hilaire.
It is so hard to describe these things to Texans.
Comments:
I think this site is an excellent idea and it has made me want to get out all the
old photos. I still have all the year books, from my High School years,
and lots of photos but most of them are on slides, so I will have to print them before
I can sent them to you - there are some hillarious ones of "topsy-turvy day"
with Mr Mackenzie and Nigel on his motor bike.
